M&M’s Super Bowl Commercial Description

The Red M&M sings a heartfelt love song from behind the piano. As he sings the song, he is having flashbacks about the woman he is in love with, Naya Rivera. The flashbacks include:

  • The Red M&M following her and carrying her shopping bags
  • Painting her toenails after a bath
  • Spinning hand in hand on the beach, except the Red M&M is basically being swung.
  • Naya Rivera trying a sweet toupee on the M&M’s head

But as we get to the I won’t do that part of the song, the tone shifts into something potentially more unsettling (most involve eating him) for the M&M. Flashbacks include:

  • Watching a movie, and Naya Rivera licks his head
  • Trying to put him in a piñata
  • Putting whipped cream on his head
  • Putting him on a cake
  • Putting him on a cookie in the oven

More About Song in Commercial

The song I’d Do Anything for Love (But I won’t do that) is from Meatloaf’s 1993 album *Bat Out of Hell II: Back into hell.

One thing about this song that often gets talked about, and apparently Meatloaf is tired of answering the question, what is that? In his 2005 VH1 Storytellers performance, he explained with a blackboard. At the beginning of each verse, there is a mention of two things that he would do for love, and followed by one thing he wouldn’t do.

So the things he won’t do are:

  1. forget the way you feel right now
  2. forgive myself if we don’t go all the way tonight
  3. do it better than I do it with you, so long
  4. stop dreaming of you every night of my life
