Lowe’s Spring Commercial Description

Spring 2012 commercial for Lowe’s Home Improvement starts out with a closeup of a lawnmower cutting the grass. The scent of the grass flows out in a green cloud, that travels into a mans bedroom. It wakes him up and causes him to float out of his bed, through his window, and outside into his front garden to trim the hedges. Next we see a woman with a similar situation, except she is floating with a water hose in her hand.

More About Artist & Song

The Kicks are an unsigned Nashville band. It’s funny, nothing against the band, but as I’ve gotten older and spent time in Nashville myself, it’s easier and easier to identify a Nashville band. It has nothing to do with a Nashville band being country at all. In fact, typically Nashville rock bands, typically younger ones who went to Nashville to “make it”, tend to be fantastic players. Very solid musicians. But often times they are trying to hard to “make it” with their band, they make music that is bland and uninteresting. This song, Good Morning, happens to be one of the brightest moments off of the album by the kicks. Even better, the best part of the song is the part used in the Lowe’s commercial. The rest of the song feels contrived.

I’m almost never critical on this site, and I don’t intend to be very often. However, I will say that this is a cool little commercial, and sometimes using a mediocre song, but using it very well, can make the song seem like a great song. Here is the song in it’s entirety:

Song Lyrics Used

Good morning sunshine
Greet the day and the light
It’s time to go outside
If you could keep steady
Get up and get ready
It’s time to go outside

Voiceover Says

Spring is in the air. Lowes. Never stop improving.

That’s funny, this doesn’t sound like a mediocre song to me. They sound great! Kudos to them on their success!

I probably sound a little too curmudgeonly when I talked about the band and song. I really like the way the song was used in the commercial and the part of the song that was used was fantastic. I just didn’t like the entire song nearly as much though. I’m with you though in wishing them well!

Excellent. Reminds me of the beetles. Xlnt song writing skills, transitions-very professional. First time I heard it, I think I’ll stop shopping at home depot-the last two commercials from lows has just blown me away with the musical ability of the artist on the commercial. Tennesee is blowing Hollywood to shreads-real artist!

Never heard of The Kicks, but I would have bet money that the vocals were done by Tommy Shaw, former lead singer for Styx…

Yeah, it sounds very Beatle-ish, a bit very late 60s.

This song also reminded me of Weezer (at least the chorus part did)

I love that jingle on the commercial and was curious so I just found this site by googling “time to go outside” – THANKS for the info. I’d been thinking it was a Billy Joel song that I’d forgotten. Congrats, Kicks! Great song, part and whole.

Everytime I hear the commercial It captures my attention, and I immediately feel good. That what music should do, envoke feelings.

Congratulation Kicks! The song sounds good in it’s totality.

we should all be so lucky as to write such a compact, nicely-harmonized rock song. I give it two green thumbs up!

At first I thought this was a cover if a song I knew. now the commercial is being played so many times that it’s starting to wear on my nerves. Makes me feel like smashing!

First time I heard this song on the telly I thought imediately of how it reminded me of the great music of Badfinger, which Paul McCartney helped with. So wonderful to hear that kind of sound again! Great job Kicks!! Best wishes to a great career!!!!
