Jack Daniels Commercial Description

Spring 2012 commercial for Jack Daniel’s Honey Whiskey. We see a shot of a honey bee, who happens to be wearing a helmet and googles. Presumably all honeybees wear this. I’ve never seen a bee from too close, I’m usually flailing my arms and running when I see one. Anyway, the bee is on a flower, gathering pollen. Our bee friend then begins flying away, through more flowers, through a tree branch, towards a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey. He dives into the bourbon, which turns it into Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey. I can only assume, the bee is now hammered.

More About Artist & Song

In this commercial, the song “I’m a King Bee” is sung by a San Francisco band called The Stone Foxes. When I first heard the song, I was positive it was by The Black Keys, but it’s not. It just happens to be a similar sound. If this is the first time you’ve heard of this song, it is by no means new. In fact it has been recorded numerous times, most famously by The Rolling Stones. Led Zeppelin would perform the song live as part of the live medley in the song “Whole Lotta Love”. When asked about the song, Mick Jagger reportedly said, “What’s the point of listening to us doing “I’m a King Bee” when you can hear Slim Harpo do it?” Slim Harpo was the original writer and performer of the song.
