Chevy Malibu Commercial Description

2012 Chevy Malibu Eco car commercial, featuring eAssist technology. The ad starts out with friends who are in their mid-thirties out driving at night in a maroon Chevy Malibu Eco. Spandau Ballet is playing in the car and everyone is singing: “This is the soooound of my soul.” Driver turns down the music, and everyone in the car is annoyed.

Driver: “You feel that? The eAssist is working right now.”
Annoyed man in backseat: “That’s Spandau Ballet man.”
Woman Passenger: “You did this all the way to the restaurant.
Driver: “Yeah we were going up hill. Getting extra horsepower from the battery power generator.”

The woman turns the music back up and starts singing along with the other people in the car.

Driver: “This helping us conserve fuel? This is important.”

About Artist & Song in Chevy Commercial

Spandau Ballet is a band that formed in the mid 1970’s in London England. Their style was more of a New Romantic Synthpop style that had elements of funk and soul as well. When first formed in 1976 they were known as “The Cut”. The song “True” is probably the band’s best known song, charting highly in 20 countries after it’s release in 1983. I’m listening to the song on Rdio right now and remembering that the first time I heard the song was when I was a kid when it was used in the movie 16 Candles. I feel old now. This song was also heavily sampled for the 1991 PM Dawn song “Set Adrift On Memory Bliss.”

That commercial is annoying as hell.

    “That’s Spandau Ballet, man…”

    PUNCH HIM OUT

Woman starts singing with her attitude

THROW HER OUT OF THE CAR

37 mpg is actually pretty good for a car big enough to hold egos of that size.
