Honda CR-V Superbowl Commercial Description

2012 Honda CR-V Superbowl commercial featuring Matthew Broderick reprising his role from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Basically the plot of this commercial is Ferris Bueller calls into work and lies about being sick. He then spends the day and lives it up driving in his Honda CR-V. There are quite a few references to the movie in this commercial, including someone on a roller coaster wearing Cameron’s Redwings jersey, while in the car, the display say’s he’s on the phone with Grace, who was the principal’s secretary in the movie. Those are the ones I noticed upon first viewing.

Museum Classical Song

The song that plays in the museum portion of the commercial at about 1 minute 15 seconds is called: Circles by Robert Bruce.Circles - Circles - Single Here is a video of that song:

The song “Oh Yeah” is one of the most quintessential 80’s songs that I can think of. However, if you are alive today, it seems like there is a pretty good chance you’ve heard the song. So who sings the song “Oh Yeah”? Why the Swiss of course! More specifically a Swiss electronica band called Yello. Yello is a Swiss trio consisting of Boris Blank, Carlos Perón and Dieter Meier. They originally formed in the 1970’s. Dieter Meier was the singer, but most interestingly he is an heir to a multi-millionaire fortune from his family. He has been a singer, a professional poker player, a member of the Swiss golf team, and a conceptional artist.

Their biggest song was “Oh Yeah”, which was featured on their album Stella. Oddly enough the song peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts when it was released. That’s odd, because everybody has heard this song, and knows this song. I could call my grandmother and ask her to sing me the “Ooohhh Yeah, bom! bom!” song, and she would know exactly what I was talking about. This song was first used in the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when Bueller saw Cameron’s dads beautiful Ferrari. Since then, the song has been used in movies to express the same feeling. When the song is used in movies, it’s usually accompanied by a lustworthy object.

Here is the very very strange music video for the 1980’s song, Oh Yeah:
